Mid Cornwall Galleries

The current exhibition showcasing the work of members of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, of which Andy Wood is the Hon. Secretary, is at the Mid Cornwall Galleries near St Austell in Cornwall. The galleries which opened in 1980 host about five exhibitions a year. Housed in a converted Victorian school and easily reached by car or public transport the gallery features one of the largest selections of arts and crafts in the South West.

Andy Wood's paintings are included in an exhibition entitled "Landscapes, Seascapes and Cityscapes" at this attractive gallery in an arts and crafts complex set in lovely Surrey countryside near Guildford. The Gallery is housed in the Old Pottery, next to George Frederick Watts Gallery, where his wife Mary did most of her pottery including some of the work for the superb Watts Mortuary Chapel nearby. The exhibition includes work by several members of the RI as well as work by artists local to the gallery.

Avocet Gallery

A new gallery situated in the undiscovered backwater of Rye Harbour is the venue for a continuous exhibition of paintings, photographs and prints. Owned and run by a photographer, Peter Greenhalf, and his partner, the gallery includes a tea room providing home made cakes, tea and coffee good enough to revitalize even the most careworn art lover.

Andy Wood on YouTube

Andy Wood features in a couple of videos recently posted on YouTube. One is from German TV and features some of the members of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, including Andy Wood, who were showing their work in Landau in South West Germany. The other short video is an audience tape from the opening of the German exhibition and shows a clip of Andy Wood giving an introductory speech.

Coming Exhibitions

Watercolour Academy

The work of many RI members will be included in this new exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London which is planned to run every other year, when "High Watermark", the joint RWS/RI show, is not on at the Mall Galleries. Promoted as a "summer watercolour-fest. . . a sparkling and varied display of watercolour works on paper. . . a not-to-be-missed opportunity for all collectors and lovers of watercolours" this promises to be a fascinating exhibition of contemporary watercolour painting by some of the country's leading painters. The exhibition runs from 18th to 27th August and entry is free.
